Welcome, to the
Charlotte Dance Gypsies!

We love to dance. Take a look.

Here is a little bit about what we have to offer. If you like what you see, why not drop us a line. Or better yet, come out to dance.

Also, this Saturday we will be having a sound workshop lead by David Digiuseppe at 4:15pm. This is a free event to anyone interested in learning more about the sound board.

A Little About Us

The Dance Gypsies have been hosting contra and folk dances in the Charlotte area since 1973.

Dances are held every Monday night at Chantilly Hall,
2101 Shenandoah Ave, in the Plaza-Midwood area of downtown Charlotte.

A Saturday dance/potluck is held once a month, as well as Waltz Wednesdays. See our Upcoming Events page for upcoming dances.

All dances start at 8pm, and are preceded by a free beginner’s lesson at 7:30pm.

Admission is $8 ($9 for special Wednesday and Saturday dances). $6 for students and seniors over 65. All Wednesday waltzes are free.

Newcomers are welcome and you don’t need to bring a partner!

Charlotte also hosts a New Years Eve dance, occasional electro- or techno-contras, and the annual Gypsy Meltdown dance weekend held in March.

Summer-Fall 2016 Band/Caller Schedule

Below is a brief listing of our upcoming dances. For more information about our dances, visit our Upcoming Events page.

Anyone who has an extra bedroom or that is willing to help out please contact Lisa Faryadi at lisafaryadi@hotmail.com, or any of our board members board@charlottedancegypsies.org.

Chantilly Hall

Chantilly Hall, the home of the Charlotte Dance Gypsies, was leased by the group in 2007. Once a Catholic elementary school, the gym has been converted into a dance hall which frequently accommodates over 100 dancers. The sprung wood floor was rescued from storage in Charleston, and was laid down and refinished in Charlotte.
