Bands: Stringrays and Toss the Possum
Callers: Seth Tepfer and Gaye Fifer to a St. Patrick’s Day Theme
Gypsy Meltdown is Charlotte’s annual contra dance weekend, held each March at Camp Thunderbird. Come enjoy three superb days of dancing to some of the best bands and callers in the country.
Bands and Callers
This year will host bands The Stringrays and Toss the Possum. Callers are Seth Tepfer and Gaye Fifer.
Saturday night will feature the “Pot-a-Gold” Ball!
The Stringrays: bringing together an inimitable trio of musicians: Rodney Miller on fiddle, Max Newman on guitar and Stuart Kenny on banjo and bass, and Ashley Broader (of the Syncopaths) on mandolin, along with Pokey Hellenberg on percussion, all with a shared interest in playing and exploring great tunes.
Toss the Possum: with Rob Zisette on fiddle, Laura Zisette on keyboards, and Bonnie Insull on flute, playing a mix of Celtic, Appalachian, Jazz, French Canadian and Rock n’ Roll. Their music is both smooth and lyrical.
Seth Tepfer is known for his infectious energy, short walk-thru’s, and his “hash-contras”.
Gaye Fifer is secretly Irish through and through and her voice carries the melody of the Emerald Isle in every word.
The Saturday Night “Pot-a-Gold” Ball! Plenty of lads and lassies dressed in green and gold. And shimmering lights in the ceiling that are sure to remind all the leprechauns of their beloved Emerald Isle.
Friday’s POT-LUCK dinner begins at 6:30pm. Bring your favorite food to share! Camp Thunderbird’s catering experts provide the rest of the purchased meals. If you prefer vegetarian fare, make your wishes known on the registration form. Sunday brunch will be served on the back porch of the dance hall overlooking lovely Lake Wylie.
