The move has begun from Chantilly Hall to our new home at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church. It took several weekends and many people helping with the move. The biggest project was moving the sprung wood floor, which had to be taken out and put back down piece by piece. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out!
After 10 years and many memories at Chantilly Hall, the building was sold and we were in need of a new dance hall. Lucky for us, we found a new space just five minutes away at Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church. The last Monday dance at Chantilly was June 14, 2017 with a huge turnout of people to literally dance the last dance.
New dance buttons are in! Whether you’re a new dancer, experienced dancer or can dance both roles, we’ve got you covered! These buttons are meant to let others know in a quick and easy-to-read way on the dance floor, where you stand.
An article from the Charlotte Observer about the Dance Gypsies and contra dancing.
“From artsy Asheville to Atlanta, New England and California, to this former elementary school in Charlotte’s Chantilly neighborhood, communities of contra dancers gather weekly for what feels like an old-fashioned barn dance.
It’s part line dance, part square dance and involves lots of swinging, stomping and switching partners. And social graces such as smiling, looking your partner in the eye and helping beginners through awkward moments.”
