MIGHTY FINE!

Contra Dancing in Charlotte, N.C. since 1973

Welcome, to the
Charlotte Dance Gypsies!

We love to dance. Take a look.

Here is a little bit about what we have to offer. If you like what you see, why not drop us a line. Or better yet, come out to dance.

Community Feedback Wanted:  We are in the process of updating our logo and website.

You may or may not know that our community has been going by two names. It goes back to when there where two separate dance groups — The Charlotte Dance Gypsies and The Charlotte Country Dancers.  When the two groups merged, our group took the legal name Charlotte Country Dancers but our website and Facebook page is under Charlotte Dance Gypsies.

So we are asking should our logo and website be our legal name Charlotte Country Dancers, OR should we continue doing business as the Charlotte Dance Gypsies with the legal name staying CCD? Cast your vote below!

And in further news…

* We would like to make an important announcement.  There are rumors going around that Chantilly Hall is being sold. We want to let everyone know that the rumors are true. This is the bad news – the good news is that we will continue to dance at Chantilly Hall until will find a new home or through the end of June.  We are putting together a search committee to find a suitable space to hold our dances.  Since the Charlotte Country Dancers are a totally volunteer organization we need your help.

If you would like to be part of the search committee please let any of the board members know.  The board members are Tom Ross, Dean Snipes, Carol Deacon, Lisa Faryadi and Kristin Edwards.  We are asking everyone in the community to be on the lookout for a suitable place to dance. If you know of a space please contact any of the board members. The kinds of spaces that are most commonly used by other dance communities are church gyms, community centers, event centers, lodges, etc.

Thank you for your help, The Charlotte Country Dancers Board Members

A Little About Us

The Dance Gypsies have been hosting contra and folk dances in the Charlotte area since 1973.

Dances are held every Monday night at Chantilly Hall,
2101 Shenandoah Ave, in the Plaza-Midwood area of downtown Charlotte.

A Saturday dance/potluck is held once a month, as well as Waltz Wednesdays. See our Upcoming Dances page for upcoming dances.

All dances start at 8pm, and are preceded by a free beginner’s lesson at 7:30pm.

Admission is $8 ($9 for special Wednesday and Saturday dances). $6 for students and seniors over 65. All Wednesday waltzes are free.

Newcomers are welcome and you don’t need to bring a partner!

Charlotte also hosts a New Years Eve dance, occasional electro- or techno-contras, and the annual Gypsy Meltdown dance weekend held in March.

Spring-Summer 2017 Band/Caller Schedule

Chantilly Hall

Chantilly Hall, the home of the Charlotte Dance Gypsies, was leased by the group in 2007. Once a Catholic elementary school, the gym has been converted into a dance hall which frequently accommodates over 100 dancers. The sprung wood floor was rescued from storage in Charleston, and was laid down and refinished in Charlotte.
